World Elephant Day
World Elephant Day is recognized on August 12 to honour the majestic animals, to spread awareness about the critical threats elephants are facing and to raise awareness to the ongoing struggle to protect the world's elephant population. Elephant tusks are enlarged incisor teeth made of ivory. Tusk size and shape are inherited. Tusks are used for defense, offense, digging, lifting objects, gathering food, and stripping bark to eat from trees.
