Kota Bharu

Before Kota Bharu was founded in the late 19th century, it was home to the Kelantan royalties. Kelantan was a rich territory that produced gold, tin ore, black pepper, areca nut, rice, rattan, bamboo, agarwood and songket. Kota Bharu was an entrepot because of its strategic location near the mouth of Kelantan River.
