Malaysia Labour Day

Labour Day is a celebration of the economic and social achievements of workers, including the establishment of the 8-hour day in many countries during the 1800s. Labour Day falls on May 1 in many countries such as the Great Britain, Europe and North America is also called May Day and is a celebration of the start of Spring.

In Malaysia, Labour Day is also celebrated on May 1, annually. Nevertheless, the origin of this holiday is somehow forgotten. Since May 1 is a gazetted holiday, the general public assumes this as any other holiday to rest at home, to visit family and friends, to travel and to go shopping. Sometimes, there are some peaceful rallies by workers to advocate for better working conditions and remunerations.
