Excellence for students bags teacher the Global Teacher Award 2021
Hailing from Ipoh, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Ave Maria Convent’s Chemistry teacher, V. Komathy has gone the extra mile for the love of her students and education. To pique students’ interest in chemistry, Komathy has designed several innovative products that have been recognized locally as well as internationally. One of the products is the Chem-Ester Kit: Chem Ester Kit 2.0 which is a game card guidance module created to increase the mastery of writing molecular formulas, structures and naming of compounds. Another product for the application in chemistry knowledge of problem solving is known as the Biomass Activated Carbon (BAC) for Toxic Dyes Removal: Towards a Sustainable Environment. This is an innovation which has the purpose to develop biomass activated carbon from three agricultural wastes, namely sugarcane fiber, coconut husk and banana peel to remove toxic dyes from contaminated water. The Global Teacher Award is a US$ I million award, presented annually to one outstanding teacher who contributed exceptionally to the profession and society. The Prize was established by the Varkey Foundation in 2014 to recognize and celebrate the impact the teachers have around the world on their students and the communities around them. FaveKad congratulates Teacher Komathy on this stellar achievement. FaveKad would also like to thank teachers around the world for their selfless and tireless work they put in. A quote from Sunny Varkey, founder of the Varkey Foundation; “It is only by prioritizing education that we can safeguard all our tomorrows. Education is the key to facing the future with confidence.”
