Awal Muharram

Awal Muharram is an important event for the Muslims because it marks the emigration of the Prophet Muhammad to Medina from Mecca in 622 AD. It marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar. An Islamic religious event is calculated according to the lunar calendar and a day in the Islamic calendar is defined as the beginning of sunset.
