Awal Muharram

Known either as Awal Muharram or Maal Hijrah, it is an event so critical and positive in the history of Islam that even its New Year began with that. Awal Muharram means the start of the month of Muharram, the first month in the Arabic-Islamic calendar. Maal Hijrah means ‘the Migration’ of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. This day is a public holiday in Malaysia.
