Independence Obelisk , Melaka

The Independence Obelisk has the alphabet 'M’ on all sides. ‘M’ stands for Merdeka, which means Independence. The obelisk was constructed at the place where the last British Resident Commissioner of Melaka, H.G. Hammet handed over the ‘instrument of independence’ to the first local Governor of Melaka, Tun Leong Yew Koh on August 31, 1957.
