Federal Territory Day

Federal Territory Day in Malaysia occurs on February 1 every year. It commemorates the day when Kuala Lumpur was transferred to federal control in 1974. The second and third Federal Territories are Labuan and Putrajaya, which were transferred to federal control in 1984 and 2001 respectively. Putrajaya is managed by a corporate body that controls its development. Putrajaya was developed as a “garden city” and was built on former sites of rubber and palm oil plantations. From its conception, the city was envisioned as part of a growing high-technology communications, research and development corridor stretching southward from Kuala Lumpur.
