Fingers crossed

When someone says ‘Keeping my fingers crossed for …’, he means that he wishes you luck and hopes for a good outcome for you. Historians believe that this practice started when Christianity was in its infancy and was outlawed. People used signs to recognise each other. They crossed their fingers for God's favour, luck and to ward off evils and illnesses.
