Friendship Day

Friendship Day is the day for celebrating friendship. The International Friendship Day was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay and since then, the day has been celebrated in many southern South American countries. The day was initially created by the greeting card industry but there is a revival of interest on Friendship Day with the spread of the Internet. Friendship Day celebrations occur on different dates in different countries. The World Friendship Crusade (an international civil organisation that campaigns in favour of friendship as a way of fostering a culture of peace), in 1958 proposed July 30 as the World Friendship Day. Then on April 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 30 as the official International World Friendship Day.
