International Day of Families

The International Day of Families is celebrated on May 15 every year. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 in its resolution 47/237 on September 20, 1993. The International Day of Families reflects the importance of the international communities attaches to families as basic units of society. The Day provides an opportunity to promote the awareness of issues related to families and increase the knowledge of social, economic and demographic processes affecting families. The International Day of Families can be a powerful mobilising factor on behalf of families all over the world.
