International Youth Day

The United Nations General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, held in Lisbon on August 8-12, 1998, to declare August 12 as the International Youth Day, in its resolution 54/120 on December 17, 1999. There is growing recognition that as agents of change, young people’s inclusion in the peace and security agenda and in society is key to building and sustaining peace.
