Tunku Abdul Rahman's Birthday (1903)

Tunku Abdul Rahman was the first Prime Minister of Malaysia and also the man responsible for leading a delegation to England for negotiations of independence. Also known as Father of Malaysia (Bapa Malaysia) and Father of Independence (Bapa Kemerdekaan), Tunku Abdul Rahman was Prime Minister of Malaysia until he resigned in 1970. Tunku Abdul Rahman was born into the Kedah royal family on February 8, 1903. He was the 7th son of Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, the 25th Sultan of Kedah. His mother is a Thai lady and the sixth wife of the Sultan. He had his education at the Alor Setar Malay Primary School, Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Debsirin School in Bangkok and Penang Free School. At the age of 17, he went to study in Cambridge University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree of Arts in Law and History in 1925.
