World Tourism Day
The World Tourism Organisation has been celebrating World Tourism Day as an international observance since September 27, 1980. The Statutes of the World Tourism Organisation was adopted on September 27, 1970 and World Tourism Day was chosen to coincide with this important milestone in global tourism. The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is a United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability. The World Tourism Day aims at fostering awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and at demonstrating its effects on worldwide social, cultural, political and economic values. The World Tourism Day is celebrated annually by events around the theme selected by UNWTO General Assembly, on the recommendation of the UNWTO Executive Council.
