World Water Day
World Water Day is observed on March 22 every year. World Water Day is about focusing our attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating the sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. March 22, 1993 was designated as the first World Water Day by the United Nations General Assembly. Governments all over the world were invited to devote the Day as appropriate in their national context and to organise activities such as the promotion of public awareness through the production and broadcasting of documentaries, conferences, seminars, roundtables and expositions related to the conservation and development of water resources. World Water Day is an opportunity to learn and share about water related issues and to take action to make a difference. Each year, there is a theme that corresponds with a current or future challenge. The theme for 2018 was ‘Nature for Water’, which referred to exploring nature -based solutions to water challenges we face in the 21st century. The theme for 2019 is ‘Leaving No One Behind’, which is an adaptation of the central promise by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ‘as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit’. Send World Water Day FaveKads to your family and friends to remind them about the importance of water to all of us.
