Isra and Mi’raj
Isra and Mi’raj are two parts of a Night Journey that Prophet Muhammad took during a single night. It was a physical and spiritual journey. Isra is an Arabic word referring to Prophet Muhammad’s extraordinary journey from Mecca to the site of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, followed by Mi’raj, his ascension to heaven. This journey, on the 27th of the month of Rajab, took place slightly more than a year before Prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina. The Muslims celebrate this night by offering prayers and by illuminating the night sky in the cities with lights.
